I got quite excited when first given a kitchen table recording of some of Rodger's new songs and was asked to get involved in this new project.  Rodger, Paul Riemens and I quickly decided that we should record this off the floor, quick and dirty, and see what happens.  Paul and I liked what was coming through on the kitchen recordings.  Rodger was loose and raw, they way we hear him at porch parties.  We wanted that!  We didn't want to overwork anything. 

Rodger brought together an eclectic group into the studio and they just got down to the task at hand.  Most of the takes that are used here are either the first or second takes with no overdubs.  The ensuing cd evolved before us.  I felt like Butch Cassidy looking over to Sundance after each song and saying, "Who are those guys?"  The band was there right from the git-go, egos did not come into play, they just rode on the groove that Rodger set and they were off. 

"Those guys" were led by Darrin Schott on guitar and mandolin with Paul Intson on stand up bass, Danny Lockwood on drums, and Steve O'Connor on keyboards, piano, and accordion.  I cannot say enough about all these guys, top notch musicians in their own right, totally incredible as a group.  They just worked so impressively well together, not wavering from the high level established at the start.  I had never been a part of putting down an entire cd of this caliber, recorded in a single day.

The result was truly magical, the moment captured by Paul Riemens and Amy King.  Listening to this you get to know the real Rodger Brunning.    ...Enjoy.
